Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the representative type of school-to-work transition trajectory of youth in Korea and to find out factors affecting on the trajectory type. This study used the second wave(2007~2012) of Youth Panel data for Graduates in 2007 and 2008. Using the group-based trajectory method, we examine youth¡¯s transition trajectories for 48 months after graduating. As a result, we identified seven trajectory types: ¨ç not-entered ¨è entering school ¨é long-term preparation ¨ê short-term preparation ¨ë precarious working ¨ì keep-permanent working and ¨í exit-permanent working. Using various logit and multinomial logit model, we identified the determinants of the different types of trajectory based Human Capital Theory, Status Attainment Theory, Signaling Theory, Social Capital Theory. The results show that the Status Attainment Theory explained very well whether to enter the labor market. The Signaling Theory and the Social Capital Theory explained well the quality of the labor market entry. But the Human Capital Theory explained the trajectory types only a limits.
